Snorkeling Smarter After Fifty

I'm not a doctor, so take this for what it's worth-just someone who loves the water and has read the research. Here's what I've changed about how I approach snorkeling now:

  1. Know your heart health. A lot of the SI-ROPE cases involved people with undiagnosed cardiac conditions that increased pressure in their lungs. If you have any history of high blood pressure, heart issues, or unexplained shortness of breath during exercise, talk to your doctor before snorkeling.
  2. Give yourself time after travel. Two or three days after a long flight before you snorkel. It's not just about jet lag.
